Fox Sports is beginning to experiment with the use of drones. Their first attempt was at the last AMA Supercross Series which telecasted on Fox Sports 2. In order to get permission, Fox had to jump through many hoops but the drones did not disappoint. The drones were able to keep up with the bikes traveling over 40 mph.
Typically sports networks have to rely on blimps or spider cams to captures overhead footage during games, but these methods have their limitations. Fox is not the first sports network to experiment with drone use. ESPN used drones at the Winter X games and was able to capture exclusive footage.
We wish sports networks like Fox the best of luck on their journey to being able to use drones to capture aerial footage.
